When getting ready to head back to high school or college, making sure your car is as ready as you are is one thing our team at Tucker Tire & Auto can help you check off your to do list. Now is the time to have the key parts of your vehicle like tires, fluids, brakes, belts, and batteries inspected to help make your journey back to school trouble free.
It’s an exciting time for everyone! Whether you’re a carpool parent, new driver or college student headed out of state, it’s important to make sure your car is ready. We have a checklist that will help you know the important items that need to be inspected before taking off for school.
Back-to-School Inspection List
Are your tires properly inflated to the recommended level? When tires are over or under inflated or worn-out, it can lead to several things that affect your driving. Issues you could encounter are lower fuel efficiency, poor traction, and decreased ability to stop accurately. To check the life left on your tire life you can use a penny. Place it upside down in a tread groove. If you can see the top of Abe’s head, it’s time for new tires. When checking, don’t forget to check your spare. If you are not able to reach it, we can help when you stop by Tucker Tire & Auto.
We have this item under control. To have your brakes regularly and properly inspected you can schedule a time with our team to put your vehicle up on the rack, remove the tires to get a accurate look. Low brake pads and worn-out rotors can result in a car that can’t stop quickly or at all. Do you hear a squealing or grinding sound when you push on your brakes? Both are signs that they need to be checked. Other indicators are your car vibrating, shaking, or pulling to one side. All these are signs that you should schedule a time with our team to take a look.
Most car batteries last three to five years in Arizona, so if yours is older it’s time to have it checked. Have you noticed your car is slower to start than usual or do you hear a clicking sound when you try to start the engine? If so, you just might have the beginnings of battery trouble. Other signs of a low battery are dim headlights or flickering dashboard lights. When we check your battery life, we’ll also take a look under the hood and inspect the battery for corrosion around the terminals. This can be is an indicator of the battery’s need to be replaced.
All fluids should all be checked, topped off or changed as needed. This helps to make your vehicle run smooth. A big MUST…regular oil changes! During your service our team will also check your wiper fluid, coolant, brake, and power steering fluids.
Our team at Tucker Tire & Auto will test all your vehicle lights, including headlights, taillights, turn signals, and hazards. We’ll take a walk around your car to make sure all your lights are working properly and lighting up to their maximum capacity and replace any burnt out or broken bulbs. Headlights can be different some are completely replaced, and some require only the bulbs to be replaced. There are many kinds of vehicle lightbulbs, and our team will be able to make sure your replacements correct.
We all know living in Arizona is hard on our vehicles and that includes our wipers. The last thing you want is to find out your wipers are dried out and cracked when you really need them. When this happens, they don’t make good contact with the windshield, which can lead to streaks, smears, the annoying chattering sound, or they split and break when you turn them on. It’s a good idea to have us inspect your wipers every 6 months and replaced every 12 months. Wipers are easily overlooked so stop by and have our guys look them over before you find out you need new ones in the middle of a heavy rain.
Heating and air conditioning
Depending on where your student is going the A/C or heating will be used more. If your vehicle is headed to northern Arizona or another northern state, we want to help make sure its ready for the weather your student will be driving in. It’s always a good idea to have the vehicles heating and air condition systems inspected before heading off to school.
No matter if you or your student is driving in Phoenix or on a long road trip its always important to be prepared. Having a safety kit in the car is important and will come in helpful if the unexpected does happen. Pack your safety kit with some of the basics… first aid kit, jumper cables, basic tools, water, a blanket, and a flashlight to get started. It is our hope that you’ll never need it, but you’ll be glad it’s there if you do.

"Diagnosed the problem, replaced the bad hose and finished the entire service within 2 hours. They were honest and fair with the price. No hidden fees added. Traveled from Anthem to have truck serviced as I use to bring old vehicle here. Worth the drive to be treated so nicely and to have honest work done. They are my #1 go to people for servicing. I highly recommend them to all who read this." Rich S.
